Readers can browse a scanned copy of George L. Willis Sr.’s History of Shelby County, Kentucky through the Shelby County Historical Society’s website. The Society says the 1929 book runs 268 pages and was written, compiled and edited by Willis.

The volume includes accounts of early settlers, churches, schools, towns, newspapers and courthouses.

Willis began his newspaper career with the Louisville Times in 1886, according to the Society’s biographical account. He later worked as a correspondent for the Courier-Journal and an editor of The Frankfort Capital, and his career also included the Shelby Sentinel and Shelby Record.
