Shelbyville police say officers recovered a vehicle reported stolen in Lexington and took a Lexington man into custody October 29 after camera alerts led them to the Lowe’s parking lot.

A Shelby County Detention Center roster record from October 29 lists Dustin Tyler Bynum on a charge of receiving stolen property valued at $1,000 to less than $10,000. A charge is an allegation, not a finding of guilt.

Officers received the first stolen-vehicle notification through Flock technology about 6:56 a.m., according to the police department’s October 29 release. Police said the vehicle had been reported stolen in Lexington about 3 a.m. that morning.

A further alert came through cameras officers can access under the department’s partnership with Lowe’s. Officers found the vehicle unoccupied in the store’s parking lot, the release said.

After surveillance, Shelbyville officers and Shelby County sheriff’s deputies took Dustin Bynum, of Lexington, into custody without incident, according to police. The department said he was taken to the Shelby County Detention Center.

The records reviewed did not establish a court case number, bond or hearing date.
