Shelbyville police say an officer was injured during live-fire training in Indiana on Thursday, October 29, and was treated and released from a hospital that day.

The officer was getting out of a vehicle when an unknown object struck him in the upper arm, according to the department's release. Police described the injury as non-life-threatening.

The department said its officers were taking part in training in Indiana. The release did not identify the injured officer, the training location or what struck him. It said the circumstances were being reviewed, without identifying who was conducting that review.

Police said they delayed announcing the incident to give the officer's family time to be with him while he received treatment. The release did not give a return-to-duty date.
