Shelby County Public Schools convened its SAFE Task Force on Sept. 24, bringing together school officials, parents, law enforcement and other community members to discuss student safety and professional standards.

Members elected Hayley Weddle chair and parent representative Zach Tipton co-chair, according to the district announcement published Sept. 25.

The group reviewed educator ethics, certification procedures, the district’s Title IX policy and resources for reporting concerns. Its stated work includes examining local practices and considering recommendations for state law.

The district said the task force would meet at least quarterly. Its September account identified November as the next planned meeting, when members expected to review school policies and organize legislative advocacy.
