Shelbyville City Council approved its 2026 property-tax ordinance August 20, setting the real-property rate at 24.6 cents per $100 of assessed value. All six council members voted for the measure, according to the meeting minutes.

The rate for tangible personal property is 41.48 cents per $100. These are city rates; a county or school levy is a separate charge and shouldn't be confused with the city's bill.

October 29 update: The city says its tax assessments were mailed September 30 and the base amount is due on or before November 30. A 10% penalty begins December 1, with interest charged at 6% a year until payment.

You can look up a city bill through the property-tax link on Shelbyville's tax-information page. The city says it does not accept credit or debit cards. If a bill hasn't arrived or an amount needs explaining, the tax office number is 502-633-8000.
